“Military's voluntary innovation activities to develop a powerful force”

Seo, Ju-seok, the Vice-Minister of National Defense, began his official duties soon after his inauguration on June 7. During the inauguration, which was held at the main auditorium of the Ministry of National Defense, he said that he would be faithful in carrying out the government projects of President Moon, Jae-in's administration in order to make the Republic of Korea ‘strong and peaceful.’

"North Korea's accelerated nuclear capability and successive missile launches are not only intensifying the national security crisis on the Korean Peninsula but also are deepening the conflict surrounding the Korean Peninsula. People hope that our military can become the core of national security by establishing itself properly. For this reason, the military should establish a secure national defense posture, in order to support people's hopes,” emphasized Vice-Minister Seo.

"I will focus my energies on helping the military find its place and gain the people's trust by pressing ahead with National Defense Reform 2.0, along with the early establishment of a strategy to respond to North Korea's nuclear program and improve military service conditions. This is a shortcut to building a Republic of Korea that is safe from external threats," he also said.

“The goal of National Defense Reform 2.0 is to enable the military to win people's trust more and more. The military and the Ministry of National Defense should be more positive in innovating themselves in order to foster a powerful force as a subject of reformation. The Ministry of National Defense and affiliated organizations should become an engine and a model of reformation in the process of promoting national defense reform,” added Vice-Minister Seo. He also emphasized that the Ministry of National Defense should be reborn as a more specialized and efficient government ministry.

To close his address, Seo added, "I will do my best to support the Minister and to make the Ministry of National Defense become the most specialized and efficient ministry," asking the people for sympathy and cooperation.
