[Air Force's 18th Fighter Wing] Passion, Connected to ‘create a...

The Air Force's 18th Fighter Wing (18th Fighter Wing), a key unit supporting military operations related to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics, announced their active campaign to support the safe and successful hosting of the Olympics on February 7th.

First, the 18th Fighter Wing decorated itself for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics. There is a wing-type banner hung on the street lights along the central road of the base, as well as huge banners and stands for Soohorang and Bandabi, official mascots of the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, in the gates, visiting rooms, and residences. In particular, a mascot photo-taking zone installed at the main gate of the base plays an active role in promoting the PyeongChang Winter Olympics to neighborhood residents as well as soldiers and visitors to the unit.

As well, all of the official vehicles dispatched frequently for the Olympic support operation bear an "Olympic promotion sticker" in order to make Gangneung residents and visitors from around the world aware of the Republic of Korean Air Force's efforts for the national events.

In addition to all of this, a "UCC Contest to Cheer Up PyeongChang Winter Olympics" has been held for the soldiers, and creators of selected excellent works will receive great prizes including a reward vacation.

“The whole base has been animated by the spirit of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics,” said Senior Airman Lee, Tae-hwa who participated in the UCC contest, adding, “I'm actively participating in the campaign with the mindset that I am a hero of PyeongChang Winter Olympics.”

Meanwhile, the 18th Fighter Wing plans to focus on providing successful support for the Olympics, including emergency standby for air power, local air defense·anti-terror·snow removal operation, and control support for Yangyang Airport, as well as making every effort to defend the northeast air space during the period of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
