Marine Corps Reconnaissance Unit conducts 2025 winter training in cold snowing weather on February 12

- The training was performed from February 4 (Tuesday) to 28 (Friday), at the Pyeongchang Mountain Training Facility and Hwangbyeongsan Mountain area.

The Marine Corps Reconnaissance Unit, along with the 1st and 2nd Divisions’ reconnaissance battalions, conducted 2025 winter training from February 4 (Tuesday), to 28 (Friday). The training, held at the Pyeongchang Mountain Training Facility and Hwangbyeongsan Mountain area in cold and snowy weather, aimed to improve their winter operational capabilities.

The annual winter training exercise, conducted in cold and snowy conditions, plays a vital role in strengthening the unique mission capabilities of reconnaissance battalions, particularly in executing operations such as Deep Area Operations.

* Deep Operations: Military operations conducted to isolate, delay, obstruct, block, and annihilate enemy forces that have not yet engaged in combat, including follow-on units moving toward the front. These operations prevent the enemy from reinforcing their numerical superiority and support friendly forces' close-area operations.

This year’s winter training, involving over 500 reconnaissance battalion soldiers, was divided into segments such as winter Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training, snow maneuver training, and battalion tactical training to improve operational effectiveness in harsh conditions.

Before the training, the units practiced both individual and collective tasks focusing on infiltration skills such as static line and tactical jumps, as well as casualty management, first aid techniques, survival skills, communication, reconnaissance, and surveillance.
