Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun conducts first teleconference with senior military officers since his inauguration

On September 6, Friday, Minister Kim Yong Hyun presided over a teleconference with key military officers in the Joint Chiefs of Staff combat control room, marking his first official duty following his inauguration.

 

He thanked the officers for their dedication and underscored the importance of maintaining a robust state of military readiness.

 

Minister Kim emphasized, “The Armed Forces’ mission is a solemn responsibility entrusted by the people. We must remain committed to national defense, protecting liberal democracy, and safeguarding the lives and property of our citizens.”

 

He added, “The enemy must not provoke against our overwhelming defense capabilities and posture. If they do, we must respond swiftly, decisively, and relentlessly, ensuring they pay a steep price.”

 

Minister Kim also stressed the necessity of constant vigilance and a rapid, decisive response to North Korean provocations, saying, “We must monitor their activities around the clock, all year long, and be prepared to respond immediately in the event of conflict.”

 

He stated, “Let’s collaborate to enhance the service conditions and compensation for our 500,000 dedicated soldiers, and tackle issues like inadequate housing, low salaries, and insufficient allowances.”
