Defense Minister Shin Won Sik met with Polish Vice Defense Minister Pawel Bejda and discussed bilateral defense and defense industry cooperation at the Defense Ministry in Yongsan, Seoul on April 23.

Minister Shin stated, “Poland is a pivotal partner in Central and Eastern Europe, having collaborated with South Korea across various sectors including nuclear energy and automotive parts.” He highlighted that the two countries signed contracts totaling USD 44.2 billion in July 2022, solidifying South Korea's role as a crucial ally in bolstering Poland's defense capabilities.

He further noted, “We will continue our support to ensure that the Korean weapons system becomes the cornerstone of Polish national defense. We hope that both nations will achieve mutual growth through further contracts and by exploring new areas of cooperation.” Both parties have highly valued the advancements in defense and defense industry cooperation, highlighted by three defense ministerial meetings last year. Building on their defense industry collaboration, this year, South Korea and Poland agreed to deepen their defense cooperation in various fields, including mutual weapons systems training, military education, and cybersecurity.

Meanwhile, Vice Defense Minister Pawel Bejda and the Deputy Minister of State Property of Poland are scheduled to witness the test-firing of the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system (HOMAR-K), which has been customized for Poland, at the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) Anheung test site. They will also visit several Korean defense companies.
