Joint Chiefs of Staff

At their bilateral meeting, the military leaders of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the US agreed to cooperate closely on complete denuclearization and the establishment of a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

On February 7, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Chairman Park Han-ki met with US Army Chief of Staff James McConville, who was visiting ROK, at the main building of the JCS in Yongsan, Seoul.

During their meeting, Park and McConville shared their assessment of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula, and discussed approaches to enhancing military cooperation between the two countries.

More importantly, they agreed to work with each other continuously in order to militarily back up both governments’ efforts for complete denuclearization and the establishment of a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, while maintaining a combined defense posture based on the firm ROK-US alliance.

Park expressed his appreciation to the US Army including the 8th US Army in ROK for their contribution to the defense of the Korean Peninsula, while McConville vowed to further strengthen the US Army’s commitment to the maintenance of a combined defense posture.
