U.S. delegation vowed to continue non-governmental support for Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance

On September 23, Minister of National Defense Jeong Kyeong-doo met with a delegation from the Washington-based Atlantic Council think tank, visiting Seoul to attend the World Knowledge Forum, at which he emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust alliance between Republic of Korea and the United States.

During the meeting with the delegation, which included former U.S. national security adviser James Jones, Minister Jeong explained the Republic of Korean government’s efforts for the denuclearization and the establishment of a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, noting that some progress has been made thanks to the robust Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance. “Based on our strong alliance, Republic of Korea and the U.S. are continuing close interaction and cooperation to help North Korea stay on track for dialogue,” the delegation assessed. Minister Jeong and the delegation agreed to work together to build a stronger and more comprehensive alliance given the changing international security situation. “During this visit and the meeting with Minister Jeong, we had a good opportunity to deeply understand the security situation in Republic of Korea and the two governments’ efforts for denuclearization on the peninsula,” Jones said, vowing to actively support the role of the alliance in peace on the peninsula.
