Republic of Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the establishment of international peace.

The Ministry of National Defense made the announcement on October 2, saying that Vice Minister Park Jae-min and his UAE counterpart, Matar Salem Al-Dhaheri, held the ninth Vice Minister-Level Talks between Republic of Korea and UAE in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

During the talks, Vice Minister Park called for the UAE’s support and cooperation as one of Republic of Korea's key allies in the Middle East, after explaining the Republic of Korean government’s efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and build a peace regime in Northeast Asia.

“The UAE will continue to support the Republic of Korean government’s efforts to pave the path toward peace on the Korean Peninsula,” Vice Minister Al-Dhaheri responded. He also called for Republic of Korea‘s continuous interest in solving Middle East issues in a peaceful way.

Sharing the assessment that bilateral cooperation in the areas of national defense and the defense industry has deepened and diversified this year with the help of strategic interactions between the top-level officials of the two countries, the two vice ministers agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation in the information and cyber security realms, and to intensify such cooperation by increasing personnel exchanges. With respect to the defense industry, the two sides agreed to continue joint research and development, cooperation in the development of technologies, etc. to increase mutual benefits.

“The two vice ministers agreed that the informative and constructive discussions that took place during the talks will contribute in practical ways to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of national defense and the defense industry,” the ministry said.
