Navy’s new frigate Gyeonggi takes part in International Fleet Review 2019 in China

Republic of Korean Navy’s new frigate, Gyeonggi, will take part in the 2019 Chinese International Fleet Review, which is to be held in Qingdao from April 22nd to 25th.

Gyeonggi is Republic of Korea’s second Incheon-class 2500-ton guided missile frigate, and was launched in August 2013 and commissioned in October 2014.

This Chinese international fleet review is held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Navy. In response to the Chinese Navy’s official invitation, the Republic of Korean Navy has decided to participate in the fleet review as a way of activating Republic of Korea-China military exchange and promoting the excellence of Korean warships that were built with domestic technologies.


During the fleet review period, Vice Chief of Naval Operations Lieutenant General Kwon Hyeok-min will carry out military and diplomatic activities for participant countries including China on behalf of the Republic of Korean Navy. The Republic of Korean delegation will take part in a high-level symposium, naval review, and official dinner that are held by the host country. The delegation will also work on enhancing military cooperation with participant countries in a naval ship showcase.


Gyeonggi will also take part in a naval ship showcase, friendly activities among participant countries, etc., targeting foreign troops who participate in the fleet review.
