“THAAD, the Best Option for the Korea-US Alliance to Counter North Korea's Nuclear Threats”

Vice Minister of National Defense Suh Choo-suk visited the site of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) installation on June 27th to talk with local residents about its deployment. He listened to their opinions and difficulties in Soseong-gil, Chojeon-myun, Seongju County, Gyeongbuk Province. He also visited the city of Gimcheon, and promised that he would expand opportunities for communication with local residents. 

Vice Minister Suh collected opinions from local residents and affirmed that he will take all actions necessary. However, he clarified that deploying THAAD is the Korea-US alliance’s best option against the escalating nuclear and missile threats from North Korea, and that as this is the government's standpoint, it requests local residents to proactively cooperate. In addition, he promised that the Ministry of National Defense would humbly listen to the objections of local residents. However, he also made it clear that illegal acts such as taking over or blocking roads and inspecting would not be tolerated.  

After meeting local residents, Vice Minister Suh visited men of national merit in VHS Medical Center to express his thanks and pray for their complete recovery. Commemorating Memorial month, he expressed his respect and thanks by visiting the hospital rooms for men of national merit, including 6.25 War veterans.
