“‘The Rumor of a Shortened Service Period’ That Has Spread via SNS Is False”

Ministry of National Defense clarified that the rumor of plans to shorten the service period that has been spreading via some SNS is false.

On March 27, the MND made an announcement evening news to respond to a false news report that had recently been generated and distributed throughout some SNS under the headline ‘Military service period to be shortened from 2018, with 30 days less per year’. The MND also clarified that none of the SNS posts related to news-formatted articles of reducing the length of military service were true, and that the articles had no basis in fact. In addition, the MND stated, “The MND has not made any decisions related to a reduction in the service period. Please do not be misled by these false news reports.”
