4th ROK-EU Defense Security Dialogue



On June 24, Kim Sang-jin, chief of the International Policy Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense, and Joanneke Balfoort, Director Security and Defense, European External Action Service, held the fourth Republic of Korea (ROK)-European Union (EU) Defense Security Dialogue through a video link to share opinions on the regional security situation, as well as on ROK-EU defense exchange and cooperation. The ROK-EU Defense Security Dialogue has been held biannually since 2015.



The two sides shared the assessment that the ROK and EU have been expanding and developing cooperation in the defense area on the basis of a ‘strategic partnership.’ Significantly, the EU side explained the details of its ongoing Indo-Pacific strategy, hoping to cooperate with the ROK, one of its key partners, to implement the strategy.



Kim asked for the EU’s cooperation and support, explaining our government’s efforts to establish the denuclearization of and a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
