Defense ministry holds map exercise with related ministries to respond to North Korea’s nuclear and WMD threats on the sidelines of Ulchi Freedom Shield Exercise

On the morning of Wednesday, August 24, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup conducted a map exercise to deter and respond to North Korea’s nuclear and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) threats, with the participation of officials from related ministries, on the sidelines of the 2022 Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise.

During the exercise, the participants shared measures to handle the issues within the remit of related ministries, including △ safety of the people, △ disaster medical assistance, and △ communication with the people, as well as diplomatic and military measures to deter and respond to North Korea’s nuclear and WMD threats, and discussed a practical cooperative plan.

Ending the exercise, Minister Lee asked both the military and related ministries to focus their best efforts and attention on protecting the lives and properties of the people, stressing again the importance of integrating pan-governmental efforts to deter and respond to North Korea’s use of nuclear weapons and WMD.
