The release of the 2022 Defense White Paper

The Ministry of National Defense has released the 2022 Defense White Paper with the aim of promoting public awareness of national defense policy and enhancing transparency in the military.

Here are some significant aspects of the 2022 Defense White Paper.

To raise public awareness of the existence and severity of the threats posed by North Korea, the 2022 Defense White Paper included specific details about such threats. Notably, the document referred to the North Korean regime and its military as "our enemy."

The 2022 Defense White Paper underscored the determination to enhance the military's capabilities and respond firmly to provocations, while maintaining a commitment to "peace through force" in order to achieve lasting peace.

The white paper accurately reflects the endeavors of the defense industry to put into practice the government's policies regarding a "global pivotal state," the "Indo-Pacific strategy," and a "strong ROK-US Alliance."

The 2022 Defense White Paper outlined the progress and future direction of a new defense policy developed under the current administration, which centers on building a robust, science and technology-driven military through Defense Innovation 4.0, enhancing soldier morale and well-being, and increasing military compensation.
