Defense Minister holds emergency conference of commanders in relation to North Korea's provocations and natural disasters

Defense Minister Shin Won Sik hosted an emergency conference of commanders in relation to North Korea's provocations and natural disasters on July 17.

The purpose of the conference was to acknowledge the current grave situation, including North Korea’s continued provocative threats and extreme weather, and to establish an immediate response posture for units.

The meeting assessed possible types of provocations following the North's latest provocative threats and the impact of the summer weather on military operations and discussed the military’s firm readiness posture.

They also discussed the posture for responding to various disasters amid unprecedented torrential rains, and ways to support relief efforts while ensuring safety.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Shin Won Sik said: “We are now facing multiple crises, as we need to counter North Korea’s provocative threats and be prepared for unpredictable challenges from natural disasters. In this situation, unit commanders at various levels must be fully ready and vigilant while closely monitoring the situation at their posts with firm determination.” In particular, he urged unit commanders to “give top priority to the lives and safety of people and soldiers and pay attention to even the smallest details, such as providing troops with sufficient rest and food during missions.”
