The Defense Ministry announced on November 19 that it hosted the 24-3 DnA (Defense and Autonomy) Forum on November 18 at the LW Convention Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. The DnA Forum serves as a platform for civilian, government, and military experts to share insights and collaborate on the establishment of AI-based manned-unmanned collaborative combat systems (MUM-CCS).

During the forum, participants reviewed research findings related to the Korean Modular Open Systems Approach (K-MOSA) for unmanned systems and discussed task performance guidelines. K-MOSA is a Korean framework designed to integrate unmanned systems throughout their acquisition phases, drawing on international policies and implementation cases. Professor Heo Jang-uk of Kumho National Institute of Technology delivered a presentation on representative platforms and standard requirements for ground, maritime, and aerial weapon systems. His presentation included analyses of unmanned weapon system projects undertaken by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and each branch of the military. He also outlined methods for systematization and modularization, along with the roles of relevant institutions, based on the acquisition timeline and application processes for each system.

A dedicated discussion on the task performance guidelines for K-MOSA followed. Chaired by Kang Wang-gu, head of the unmanned vehicle division at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, the session featured contributions from specialists representing the Air Force, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, Agency for Defense Development, defense contractors, and research institutions. Participants engaged in an in-depth exchange of perspectives on the development and implementation of K-MOSA.

Ryu Hyo-sang, an advanced force planning officer, stated, “Based on the research findings, we will strive to devise and implement detailed, actionable policies to advance the systematization and modularization of unmanned defense weapon systems.”
