Vice defense minister holds separate bilateral talks with US Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and US Under Secretary for DOD Acquisition & Sustainment

On September 14 (local time), Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul, who was visiting Washington D.C. (USA) to discuss the Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group (EDSCG), held separate bilateral talks with US Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Heidi Shyu and US Under Secretary for DOD Acquisition and Sustainment William A. LaPlante at the US Department of Defense.

These bilateral talks were held to discuss ways to expand ROK-US defense science and technology cooperation and opportunities to participate in the mutual defense industry supply chain in response to the reorganization of the global supply chain and the intensifying race for global technological supremacy.

Shin and Shyu both highly evaluated the efforts to maintain the ROK-US cooperative relations through the acquisition of the weapons system and active discussions on the joint research and development area. 
 

The ministry will push forward with fostering the defense industry and promoting exports, as well as advancing our military and developing the alliance capabilities, by making full use of ROK-US high-level defense science and technology cooperation channels.
