ROK, China hold ceremony to place the remains of Chinese troops in coffin

On Thursday morning, 10 a.m., September 15, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and China held a ceremony to place the remains of Chinese troops in coffins for 88 sets of remains of Chinese troops excavated in the course of the military’s Korean War dead excavation work at the ‘temporary morgue for the remains of Chinese troops’ located in Incheon.

Presided over by Director General for International Policy Kim Sang-jin and Chinese Vice Minister of Veterans Affairs Chang-Zhengguo, the ceremony was held with officials from both countries in attendance, including the ROK’s MND Agency for KIA Recovery & Identification and China’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs working group.

The two countries have cooperated to repatriate a total of 825 sets of remains of Chinese troops to China on eight separate occasions (2014~2021) since the first repatriation of the remains of Chinese troops discovered in the ROK in 2012 in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.
