Vice defense minister holds ROK-Greece bilateral talks on the sidelines of 「Seoul Defense Dialogue 2022」

- Vice Minister Shin expresses gratitude to Greece for its support in the Korean War, and the two sides discuss the expansion of ROK-Greece cooperation in the areas of national defense and the arms industry

On September 7 (Wednesday), Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul held bilateral talks with his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Chardalias, who was visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK) to participate in ｢Seoul Defense Dialogue 2022｣, and the two exchanged opinions on pending issues between the two countries in the areas of national defense and the arms industry.

Shin said in a statement that the ROK and Greece have continued cooperative relations even in the area of national defense, including high-level exchanges, as traditional allies. Significantly, Shin stressed that the opening ceremony for the monument for Greek troops who participated in the Korean War, which was held during Chardalias’ visit to the ROK after relocation to Youngwol Park in Yeoju, served as a precious opportunity for Koreans to remember the devotion of Greece.

Shin also stressed the need to closely cooperate in terms of multilateral security cooperation, including antipiracy operation and responding to new security threats, through the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on the basis of such defense cooperation between the two countries.
