Defense minister meets with commander of US Cyber Command

Two sides conclude MOU to expand bilateral cooperation in the area of cyber operations

On August 18, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with Paul M. Nakasone, commander of the United States (US) Cyber Command, at the main building of the ministry in Yongsan, Seoul, and they discussed the recent cyber threats, approaches to bolstering response capabilities, and bilateral cooperation and development in the cyber sector.

Lee and Nakasone shared the view that bilateral cooperation in the cyber sector is critical to maintaining a firm combined defense posture, and reached a consensus on pursuing a mutual response to cyber threats.

The cyber commands of the two countries also signed a ‘memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand bilateral cooperation in the area of cyber operations.’

With Nakasone’s visit to the ROK as momentum, the two sides will work to practically and substantially expand bilateral cooperation in terms of level and content, anticipating that bilateral cooperation to respond to the increasingly advanced and intelligent cyber threats will be further strengthened.
