Defense minister meets with delegation from US House of Representatives

In the morning of September 5 (Monday), Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with a delegation from the United States (US) House of Representatives consisting of members of the US House Armed Services Committee and Foreign Affairs Committee, including Stephanie Murphy and Scott Franklin, at which the two sides exchanged opinions on key security issues.

Lee said that it is greatly significant that the importance of the US Forces in the ROK and the US’s extended deterrence commitment to the ROK have been included in the ‘National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2023*’ which recently passed the plenary session of the House in terms of the US Congress’s strong support for the ROK-US alliance and combined defense posture, and expressed his gratitude for that.

The two sides agreed to continue cooperating with each other in the process that the ROK-US alliance is developing into a ‘global comprehensive strategic alliance,’ sharing the view that the role of the US Congress, as well as its government’s effort, is important to further cement the ROK-US alliance.
