On the sidelines of 「Seoul Defense Dialogue 2022」:
Vice defense minister holds ROK-RSA bilateral talks and ROK-Canada bilateral talks

Two sides discuss ways to expand defense exchanges and cooperation between the ROK and the RSA and strengthen security cooperation between the ROK and Canada

On September 6 (Tuesday), Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul held separate bilateral talks with the Republic of South Africa’s (RSA) Vice Defense Minister Thabang Makwetla and Canadian Associate Deputy Minister of National Defense Stefanie Beck, both of whom were visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK) to participate in the 11th Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD), at Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

During the ROK-RSA bilateral talks, Shin made the assessment that the two countries have been linked since the RSA’s participation in the Korean War, and have been steadily cooperating with each other in the area of defense through the management of a regular consultative group and exchanges in military education, as well as in the area of economic and development cooperation, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in December, 1992.

During the bilateral talks with Canadian Associate Deputy Minister of National Defense Stefanie Beck, Shin said that the strengthening of defense cooperation between the two countries which share universal values will contribute to building peace and stability in the region, while offering a reminder of the outcomes of the ROK-Canada summit held on the sidelines of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s participation in the NATO summit last June.
