Defense minister pays respects at Arlington National Cemetery and attends the ‘luncheon event for bereaved families of Korean War veterans’

On July 26 (local time), the first day of his visit to the United States (US), Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup paid his respects at Arlington National Cemetery, and attended a luncheon event for the bereaved families of Korean War veterans to pay tribute to the Korean War veterans and console the bereaved families.

Lee paid tribute to the noble sacrifices of the unknown soldiers who gave their lives to protect freedom and peace in foreign lands, including in the Korean War, by laying flowers at the ‘tomb of the unknown soldier’ in Arlington National Cemetery.

In his congratulatory address at the event for the bereaved families of Korean War veterans and the ROK and US officials who had played a part in constructing the ‘Wall of Remembrance,’ Lee expressed his gratitude to and prayed for the repose of the late Colonel Weber, who had been committed to constructing the Wall of Remembrance. Lee also offered words of respect and consolation to the bereaved family, including the Colonel's widow Ms. Annelie Weber.
