Defense minister attends ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Wall of Remembrance, visits Armed Forces Retirement Home, and holds a meeting with specialists in the Korean Peninsula



On July 27 (local time), the second day of his visit to the United States (US), Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup △ attended the ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Wall of Remembrance for the fallen in the Korean War, △ visited the Armed Forces Retirement Home to pay tribute to Korean War veterans and consoled the bereaved families, and △ had a meeting with specialists in Asia, including John Hemre, president of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), at which the parties exchanged opinions on the direction of ROK-US defense cooperation and the situation in the region.



Lee paid tribute to the ROK and US veterans who participated in the Korean War and all those who dedicated themselves to protecting our country during the war while attending the ceremony to celebrate the completion of the ‘Wall of Remembrance,’ on which the names of about 43,808 US troops and KATUSA (Korean Augmentation Troops to United States Army) who died in the Korean War are engraved.



On the Wednesday afternoon, Lee visited the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. to meet the veterans who had participated in the Korean War. He delivered care packages and expressed his respect and gratitude for their participation in the Korean War. 


   
Lee also had a luncheon with US specialists in the Korean Peninsula and Asia, including John Hamre and Victor Cha of CSIS, at which they exchanged opinions on the ROK-US alliance and the current issues in the region.
