Defense minister meets with delegation of US House of Representatives and Korean Peninsula specialists



On the morning of Wednesday, August 10, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with a delegation of United States (US) Korean Peninsula and security specialists, including Joseph DeTrani, former special envoy for negotiations with North Korea, and congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, and the two sides exchanged opinions on the main current security issues.



Lee stressed that our government considers the strengthening of the ROK-US alliance as a key to the foreign security policy, and strives to further cement the ROK-US alliance in the area of defense. 



Lee also clarified that the ministry has been continuing to communicate closely with the US Department of Defense, with the aim of ▴ successfully carrying out the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise, slated to be held in the second half of the year and ▴ ensuring greater performance of the Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group (EDSCG), slated to be held this September.
