In the afternoon (16:30) of Wednesday, August 10, the Ministry of National Defense held the 「meeting of armed forces top commanders」 presided over by Minister Lee Jong-sup via video link.

During the Wednesday meeting, the minister and the top commanders at the operations commander level and above checked on the military’s plan to respond to the increased spread of COVID-19 and its quarantine measures to prepare for the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise, and discussed ways to prevent human rights violations in the military and strengthen the military readiness posture.

To prevent a rapid increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the military, first of all, the participants agreed to strengthen the response system centering on the military’s quarantine and medical capabilities while minimizing uniform restrictions on service members’ activities.

The participants also made an assessment of the current security situation and discussed ways to strengthen the military readiness posture prior to the UFS exercise in the second half of 2022.
