Defense ministry to hold a first pitch event for Korean baseball league in memorial month

ROK and US descendants of the Korean War veterans will pitch and bat the first ball

On the occasion of the month of appreciation for patriots and veterans, the Ministry of National Defense plans to hold a first pitch and batting event for the Korean baseball league by cooperating with the KT Wiz baseball team.

At the event, slated to be held at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on June 25, Saturday, at 17 pm, descendants of the veterans who fought in the Korean War will pitch and bat the first ball, marking the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War.

Captain (to be promoted) Ji Sang-gon, officer of personnel management of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command and Lieutenant Colonel Miranda Killingsworth, officer of civil military operations of the 8th Army Command of the US Forces in the ROK (8th US Army) will serve as the honorary pitcher and batter, respectively.

The two soldiers participating in the event will step onto the field wearing jerseys bearing the numbers ‘625’ and ‘72,’ respectively, for June 25 and the 72nd anniversary of the Korean War, and the ministry’s military band will sing the national anthem in unison and give a musical performance.

The ministry hopes that this event will help others reflect on the noble spirit of the Korean War veterans who devoted themselves to protecting the freedom and peace of the ROK and the firm ROK-US alliance.
