Defense minister and US senator meet to discuss regional security and alliance issues

On July 4, Monday, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with United States (US) senator Rick Scott* for discussions on issues related to the security situation in the region, including the Korean Peninsula, and the development direction for the bilateral alliance.

Stressing the role of the ROK-US alliance in building peace and stability in the region, Lee said the ROK-US alliance is broadening its horizons, evolving from a security alliance into a value-based, technology and economic alliance.

Expressing his gratitude for the attention the US Congress has given to the ROK-US alliance, Lee called for the US Congress to continue its support for the development of the two countries’ partnership into a global comprehensive strategic alliance.
