Defense ministry holds 「meeting of armed forces top commanders」 presided over by President


At the meeting, participants present the goal of defense management, titled “robust defense, strong military backed by science and technology,” and six main subjects for defense management, and discuss ways to push forward key issues



On Wednesday, July 6, the Ministry of National Defense held the first-half 「meeting of armed forces top commanders」 presided over by President Yoon Suk Yeol, in the Gyeryong-dae military headquarters.



The Wednesday meeting was first one presided over by President Yoon, and was held at the Gyeryongdae military headquarters, which serves as a cradle of building military strength, with the goal of focusing the military’s will and the government’s effort to overcome the grave security situation in the region and nurture AI-based strong forces backed by advanced science and technology.



The participants also discussed concrete ways to boost the ROK military’s defense capabilities, including deterrence and response capabilities to counter North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, and had an in-depth discussion on ways to improve the barracks environment and service conditions to raise the morale and welfare of service members.



At the meeting, Minister Lee Jong-sup presented the goal of defense management, titled “robust defense, strong military backed by science and technology,” and six main subjects for defense management to achieve the goal through a briefing on ‘the direction of Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s defense policy’:


① Establishing a defense posture against omnidirectional threats and expanding reaction capabilities


② Nurturing armed forces backed by advanced science and technology through Defense Innovation 4.0


③ Deepening and expanding a leap ahead in the ROK-US military alliance and defense cooperation


④ Conducting defense management based on safety, transparency and win-win relations between civilians and the military


⑤ Creating a defense culture that meets the needs of future generations


⑥ Fostering the defense industry as a national strategic industry

Regarding the plan to advance four key issues in the area of defense, the participants had an in-depth discussion, listening to the opinions of top commanders and experts.



At the meeting, Yoon expressed his gratitude to all service members and civilian workers, including commanders of each military unit, for their hard work and dedication, and called on them to take a leap toward a strong military backed by science and technology through the Defense Innovation 4.0 initiative, stressing the need for a strong defense power to maintain security and the national interest amid an increasingly uncertain security environment.
