Vice defense minister holds bilateral talks with UK’s newly-appointed vice defense minister, and takes part in Farnborough International Airshow

Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul held bilateral talks with the United Kingdom’s (UK) newly-appointed vice defense minister Jeremy Quin during his visit to the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 19, (local time), the second day of his visit to UK, and offered his encouragement to the Black Eagles air display team, which had won the grand prize and popularity award in the ‘RIAT Airshow’ held in UK.

Shin explained the establishment direction for the Korean three-axis defense system to respond to North Korea’s advancing nuclear and missile threats, and Quin shared the view on the need to work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas, including science and technology and the arms industry, as well as diplomatic efforts to cope with North Korea’s threats.

“During this visit to the UK, the two sides reaffirmed the amicable relations between the two countries and discussed ways to deepen defense cooperation as the first effort to implement the 「bilateral framework for closer cooperation」 adopted during the summit between the leaders of the two countries,” Shin assessed, stressing that “the two sides will further reinforce bilateral cooperation in the areas of national defense and the arms industry, based on shared values.”
