[At 19th Asia Security Summit]
ROK, Netherlands hold defense ministerial talks

On Sunday June 12, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop met with his counterpart from the Netherlands Kajsa Ollongren, on the sidelines of the 19th Asia Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue) held in Singapore. The two ministers discussed defense exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, as well as the security situation in the region including the Korean Peninsula.

At the request of Ollongren, Lee provided an overview of the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula. In response, Ollongren vowed to provide support necessary for building peace on the peninsula, stressing that the Netherlands is keeping tabs on the issues of the peninsula with great interest.

Ollongren also expressed that the Netherlands hopes to push ahead with defense cooperation in emerging technologies, such as cyber, AI, and robotics, in which the two countries have strengths, stressing the significant potential of defense cooperation between the two countries. Lee expressed his agreement, and emphasized the ROK’s strong will to cooperate with the Netherlands.
