ROK, Sweden hold vice defense ministers’ meeting

On the morning of June 15, Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-cheol held talks with his Swedish counterpart Jan-Olof Lind to discuss the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Europe, changes in Sweden’s defense policy, and defense exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Explaining the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula, Shin expressed gratitude for Sweden’s continued support for building peace on the peninsula, and called on Sweden to provide ongoing support for the ROK government’s effort to establish a lasting peace and safety on the peninsula through North Korea’s complete denuclearization.

The two sides shared the view that their two countries have continued defense exchanges and cooperation based on their long history of amicable relations, and agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation between the defense ministries and armed services of the two countries in a range of areas, including high-level exchanges, military education, and peacekeeping activities.
