Defense minister meets with US Pacific Fleet Commander

In the afternoon of Tuesday, June 21, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup met with United States (US) Pacific Fleet Commander Samuel Paparo, who was visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK), and the two exchanged opinions on the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region and ways to boost the ROK-US alliance.

Lee gave his assessment that the security situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula is graver than ever due to the North Korea’s obsession with nuclear and missile development and its continued provocations, stressing that the US Pacific Fleet Command is playing a pivotal role in maintaining a firm ROK-US combined defense posture to counter North Korea’s possible provocations.
