Defense minister participates in 19th Asia Security Summit

Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop will participate in the 19th Asia Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue) slated to be held in Singapore from June 10 to June 12.

With the resumption of the forum after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, Lee plans to explain the government’s policies toward North Korea, including North Korea’s denuclearization and the establishment of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, during a plenary session titled “Common Challenges for Asia-Pacific and European Defense” on June 12. 

On the sidelines of the forum, Lee also plans to hold defense ministerial talks with the main nations, as well as bilateral talks between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States (US), bilateral talks between the ROK and China, and trilateral talks between the ROK, the US, and China, to discuss the security situation in the region including the Korean Peninsula and ways to expand bilateral defense cooperation.
