Chairman of the Republic of Korea JCS, Gen. Won had a trilateral meeting with Chairman of the U.S. JCS and Chief of Staff, Japan JS.



Chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen Won, In Choul had a trilateral meeting at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Headquarters, Camp Smith, Hawaii, with Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, GEN Mark A. Milley and Chief of Staff, Japan Joint Staff, GEN Koji Yamazaki, today.



The Tri-CHOD meeting took place after a year since the latest in-person meeting was held in April, 2021. U.S. Indo-Pacific Command commander Adm. John C. Aquilino, U.S. Forces Korea commander GEN Paul J. LaCamera, and U.S. Forces Japan commander Lt Gen Ricky N. Rupp also attended.



This session featured discussions on the Korean Peninsula and regional security environment, regional security challenges, and the ironclad commitment of the U.S. to defend both Japan and the Republic of Korea. The military leaders shared common understanding on the significance of enhancing regional security through close trilateral cooperation and coordination.



Also, the senior military leaders exchanged thoughts on multilateral cooperation and training in order to enhance the peace and stability in the Free and Open Indo-Pacific region and to expand the security cooperation. They agreed to strengthen the trilateral cooperation to achieve these objectives.
