Defense ministry to resume war remains excavation at White Horse Hill in DMZ

Building on efforts that began in 2021, the Ministry of National Defense plans to resume the war remains excavation work at White Horse Hill (Baengma Goji in Korean) in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on April 11.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Battles of White Horse Hill. White Horse Hill was the site of ten days of twelve fierce battles between the ROK's 9th Infantry Division and Chinese troops in October 1952. A number of Korean soldiers were killed or missing as a result of these battles.

The ministry notified the North of the details of the resumption of the remains excavation work for this year, including the excavation work at White Horse Hill, and also promised to cooperate closely with the United Nations Command in pushing for the remains excavation work in the DMZ this year.
