Defense minister visits Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek

Defense minister checked on firm combined defense readiness, and the progress of the transition of the combined forces command

On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 16, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook visited Camp Humphreys with Kim Man-ki, chief of the office of national defense policy, and Ahn Young-ho, head of the US Forces in Korea (USFK) base transition project group, and checked on the Republic of Korea (ROK)-United States (US) combined defense readiness and preparations for the transition of the combined forces command.

Suh went on to offer his assessment that “the ROK-US alliance and the combined defense readiness are more strongly maintained than ever before” at a meeting with top officials of the combined forces command and the United Nations Command, including Combined Forces Commander Paul LaCamera and Deputy Combined Forces Commander Kim Seung-kyeom.

Regarding the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula, Suh asked them to “strive to perform the combined forces command’s proper duty to defend the ROK with a firm combined defense readiness given the serious security situation,” stressing that “the military will maintain an unshakable readiness posture based on ROK-US communication and cooperation, even during the current change in administration.”
