-“Will actively cooperate with local government public service projects on idle military sites for civic-military coexistence.”

The Defense Ministry and Osan City discussed mutual cooperation in using the unused site of the Osan Reserve Forces Training Center.

During a discussion on this subject, Osan Mayor Lee Kwon-jae requested the Ministry’s cooperation on the acquisition of the site to develop a high-tech industrial complex. To facilitate this, the city plans to complete various licensing and land compensation procedures by 2024, laying the groundwork for the project commence in 2025.

Vice Defense Minister Shin Beom-chul stated, "The Defense Ministry is fully committed to enabling the active use of idle military sites for public projects initiated by local governments, as long as these do not interfere with the successful execution of the military's mission without a hitch." He added, "We are receptive to the city’s request to purchase the site and are ready to cooperate fully after reviewing the proposal."

The Ministry of National Defense will continue to support local governments in their request to utilize idle military sites for public service projects, as part of their ongoing efforts to promote civic-military coexistence.
