Korea-NATO bilateral meeting held during the 13th Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD)

Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun held a bilateral meeting with NATO Military Committee Chair Rob Bauer on the sidelines of the 13th Seoul Defense Dialogue on the afternoon of September 11 (Wednesday), and exchanged views on ways to further develop Korea-NATO security and defense cooperation.

Minister Kim highly appreciated the strong international response to the Russia-North Korea military exchanges as agreed by the leaders of Korea and NATO, as well as the consolidation of cooperation between NATO and the Indo-Pacific 4 (IP4) (Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand), and urged joint efforts to make substantial progress in the security and defense fields.

Chair Bauer noted the rapidly changing global security situation in the aftermath of the Ukraine-Russia war, and spoke positively of South Korea’s contribution to peace and stability in Europe through its support for Ukraine.

Minister Kim and Chair Bauer agreed on the need for security and defense cooperation between Korea and NATO, which share universal values such as freedom, human rights and a market economy, and decided to strengthen joint efforts in various areas such as cyber security and information sharing.
