Ministry of National Defense (MND) Held Defense Reform 2.0 Promotion Inspection Meeting

-Enhancing the driving force for practical completion of Defense Reform 2.0 through an in-depth evaluation of the overall performance of the defense reform tasks and inspection of the promotion roadmap-

On January 6 (Thursday), the Ministry of National Defense (MND) held a Defense Reform 2.0 Promotion Inspection Meeting hosted by Minister Suh Wook in the main conference room of the Defense Ministry.

In consideration of the COVID-19 situation, the meeting was attended by the minimum number of military personnel, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the chiefs of staff of each military, the head of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and the Director-level staff of MND.

This meeting provided an opportunity to accelerate the momentum toward reform completion by evaluating the progress compared to the goals of each task of the ‘Defense Reform 2.0’ initiative being implemented by the current government over the past four years, and reviewing the implementation roadmap until the point of completion of each task to ensure the success of future reform efforts.

The ROK military reaffirmed its integrated efforts to ‘early realize a strong military that supports the peace and prosperity of Republic of Korea (ROK) with its power,’ evaluating the achievements of Defense Reform 2.0 over the last four years.

Based on a quantitative and qualitative diagnosis of the performance so far, the average progress of the reform tasks achieved was 87% compared to the final goal as of the end of 2021.

Defense reform is being pursued with the aim of achieving 95% of the target within the current government's term, and most of the reform tasks are expected to be completed within this timeframe, with the exception of some long-term tasks such as establishing some military power, scientific training grounds, and military facilities.
