Military to strengthen quarantine and medical system to respond to the spread of Omicron

- The Ministry of National Defense has established a plan to expand its capability to respond to the rapid increase of contact tracing, tests and the quarantined cases, and maintain a military readiness posture

The Ministry of National Defense has established a plan to strengthen the quarantine and medical system to respond to the consistent increase in the number of confirmed and quarantined cases in the military due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

Regarding COVID-19 testing, the ministry plans to maintain the current PCR test system in the military by expanding the military’s PCR testing capability to the full, including through reinforcing military manpower and expanding the contracting of tests to private institutes.

The ministry also established a plan to respond to the rapid increase of contact tracing and quarantined cases. First, the ministry plans to push for the rental of private facilities, as well as securing available quarantine facilities for each unit, in order to respond to the rapid increase in quarantined cases.

Regarding the treatment of confirmed cases, the ministry plans to maintain the existing system in which soldiers and trainees in the units who cannot be treated at home should enter residential treatment centers, while officers and full-time soldiers who commute from their homes should be treated at home according to the control of the health authorities.
