2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting

The ministerial meeting is a top-level meeting in the area of UN peacekeeping operations, and in 2021 will be held for the first time in Asia in Korea.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ‘2021 Seoul United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Ministerial’ will be held via a video link for two days, on Tuesday evening, December 7 (▴opening ceremony, ▴Session 1, and ▴Session 2) and Wednesday evening, December 8 (▴Session 3, ▴Session 4, and ▴closing ceremony), under the main theme of ‘strengthening technical and medical capabilities.’

The ministerial meeting was supposed to be held face-to-face, but instead is being held via a video link, considering the current impact of the spread of Omicron variant cases on the health and safety of the Korean people.

The UN Peacekeeping Ministerial will be held for the first time in Asia in Korea, and will be attended by 155 member states of the Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) Special Committee affiliated with the UN General Assembly (C-34). At the meeting, ministers and vice-ministers from 76 countries will speak on their countries’ commitment to contributing to the enhancement of PKO.
