Defense minister presides over 14th meeting of COVID-19 military top officials

Minister and Secretary reviewed military’s quarantine and medical response system, in connection with the government’s action plan to implement a phased return to normal

On Friday afternoon, October 29, Minister of National Defense Suh Wook presided over the fourteenth meeting of the top military officials related to COVID-19 via video link, with about 70 commanders in attendance, including main commanders such as the chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, chiefs of staff of each armed service, commander of the Marine Corps Command, and commander of the Armed Forces Medical Command.

In his opening address, Suh stressed "A phased return to normal can be achieved through establishing a quarantine posture. Military commanders and officials should keep their soldiers alert, and take the lead in observing the quarantine rules."

At the meeting, the participants agreed to ease the military’s social distancing rules in phases after a comprehensive assessment of the quarantine situation inside and outside the military, in connection with the government’s plan to reset social distancing rules for a phased return to normal, scheduled to take effect on November 1.
