20th Asia Security Conference features Korea-Netherlands Defense Ministers’ Meeting

On the afternoon of June 3 (Saturday), Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup had a bilateral meeting with Netherlands Minister of Defense Kajsa Ollongren during the 20th Asian Security Conference, also known as Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore. They exchanged views on regional security situations including the Korean Peninsula and bilateral defense exchanges and cooperation.

Following last year, the two ministers had a meeting at the Shangri-La Dialogue and assessed their close bilateral defense cooperation, including consultations on an MOU on defense cooperation. In particular, Minister Ollongren said that the Summit on the Responsible Use of AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) co-hosted by both countries in the Netherlands in February ended with success thanks to the cooperation of Korea.
* The second meeting will be held in Korea next year.

The two ministers also noted that the Korean military won in CyberNet, an international cyber competition hosted by the Netherlands, for two consecutive years, and resolved to further develop bilateral collaboration in the cyber sector.

Minister Lee said that he looked forward to meeting Minister Ollongren again at major events, including the Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD) and ROK-UNC Member States Defense Ministerial Meeting in Korea this year. Minister Ollongren said that an MOU for bilateral defense industry cooperation will be signed soon and she hoped that defense industry cooperation between Korea and Netherlands will be developed more.
