Opening ceremony for 「Identification Center」 of the Ministry of National Defense Agency for KIA Recovery & Identification 


 - Full system to honor the discovered remains of the fallen who were killed in the Korean War in the ideal environment


 - A major step toward becoming the best agency equipped with combined functions for the identification of discovered remains, at 20 years since the launch of the project



□The Ministry of National Defense Agency for KIA Recovery & Identification (MAKRI) will hold an opening ceremony for the ‘Identification Center’ at 15:00 p.m. on March 24.


◦ Presided over by Kim Seong-jun, chief of the Personnel Welfare Office of the MND, the ceremony will be attended by officials from the MND, including the chief of the Defense Installations Agency, the chief of Southern Gyeonggi Installations Corps, and Service Support Corps, and related main officials, including director of the National Forensic Service, Han Myeon-soo, professor of Dongguk University, director of the National Cemetery, as well as a forensic science officer of the National Police Agency.


□ The building has a total area of 3,747m² with three stories above ground, and consists of the remains depository, an X-Ray center, 3D scanner center, remains identification·data analysis center, and DNA investigation·DB analysis center. Significantly, it has a system that allows the discovered remains to be honored in the best environment, through automated mobile racks which are maintained at a constant temperature and humidity.


□ Having newly constructed the Identification Center, the MAKRI has made a major step toward becoming the best agency in the area of remains identification by integrating the functions of remains identification and DNA analysis, which are required for the identification of the remains of the fallen.
