On April 19 (Wednesday), the Defense Ministry held the Second Defense Data Management Committee meeting, hosted by Vice Defense Minister Shin Beom-chul at the Defense Ministry building. The meeting focused on discussing the policy for the systematic buildup and use of defense data, a core asset for a strong AI-based military.

The Defense Ministry held the First Defense Data Management Committee meeting, serving as the control tower for defense data policy, on December 22 (Thursday), 2022. The aim was to promote a military that effectively uses data, the strategic asset for cultivating an AI-based military power, and to establish defense data policy for building and using quality data.

The second session of the Committee was held to review follow-up measures discussed in the first session of the Committee, and to build defense data governance to innovate defense with the convergence of defense data and private sector AI technology.

Vice Defense Minister Shin Beom-chul said, “With the emergence of super-giant, innovative AI, the value of data that determines the success of AI is gaining increasing importance. The private sector, government, and military officials need to collaborate to improve systems and infrastructure, fostering optimized conditions where data, the core strategic asset of AI-based military forces, is systematically gathered and used.”
