Main fighters of the Air Force, F-15K and KF-16 planes took flight all at once to the airspace over the northwest islands.

The Air Combat Command held correspondence training sessions over the northwest islands for the second quarter of the year by mobilizing the main fighting forces of the Air Force forces, including such planes as the F-15K, KF-16, FA-50, F-5, F-4E, KA-1 and others on May 24th.

This training session was held to prepare for the a surprise enemy provocation through implementing ‘countermeasures for Air-Sea joint actions and striking measures.’

The Air Combat Command held with the training with the aim of improving the mission capabilities of the KA-1 aircrafts by blocking the enemy’s special forces from penetration.

The training began with the capture of anomalous signs of a coastal artillery base near the North Korean Limit Line (NLL) and the appearance of a patrol boat near Yeonpyeong Island.

At this time, the Air Force’s aviation forces urgently scrambled into a hypothetical operational zone set up in the training space, following the actual attack emergency stand-by procedure.

Fighters who entered the targeted airspace completed their combat training sessions by striking the enemy’s coastal artillery bases and patrol boats, perfectly suppressing any future provocations.

Major Seo Seong-nam, a pilot of the Air Force 19th Fighter Wing who participated in the training said, “We will be sure to protect our airspace over the northwest islands, as it is a strategic location that has been attacked by the enemy several times. With training, we will enhance our actual fighting capabilities

and continue to enhance our operational capabilities.
