Defense Minister Han Min-koo held a meeting with Uzbek Defense Minister Kabul Berdiev at the MND building in Seoul on April 21 and signed an MOU for military education exchange and cooperation.

The Uzbek minister’s visit to Korea has been promoted to develop the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the security and defense areas, which has been tightened since President Park Geun-hye visited Uzbekistan in June of last year. It has been seven years since the Uzbek Defense Minister visited Korea in 2008.

The two ministers discussed promotional plans to promote military cooperation and signed an MOU describing all the matters regarding commissioned and consigned education for military students to expand cooperation in the military education field.

Meanwhile, Minister Berdiev visited the 8th Fighter Wing right after he arrived in Korea on April 20, and expressed strong interest in Korea’s defense industry ability after seeing an FA-50, a Korean combat plane, and boarded a simulator. The Uzbek defense parties are going to visit Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA) and defense industries, and share broad opinions about defense cooperative plans with Korea until they depart on the 24th.

An MND official said, “This meeting is expected to be a good chance to ensure internal stability in the defense field. It will make a contribution to expanding cooperation with Eurasia regions, which is our government’s major project.”
