“Welcome” U.S. Aegis destroyer …opening fleets and voluntary act...
3rd Navy Fleet welcomes the Michael Murphy and participates in Foal Eagle

On February 25, the 3rd Navy Fleet held a welcoming ceremony for the “Michael Murphy”, an Aegis destroyer that recently came into Mokpo new port to participate in Foal Eagle.

Michael Murphy, the Arleigh Burke-level Aegis destroyer, was placed in commission on October 6, 2012. It was named after Captain Michael Murphy, a U.S. Navy Seal who was killed in action against the Taliban in Afghanistan in June, 2005.

The 3rd Fleet hosted the ceremony as a wish for successful combined training, and Korean and American sailors promoted friendship by having a goodwill match.

Both navies are opening their fleets to each other, touring cultural remains and doing voluntary activities at Gongsaeng rehab facility on February 26.

The Michael Murphy departs from the port on the 27th day of the same month and develops sea training on the southern waters to establish combined defense posture with the 3rd Fleet until March 2.
