Utilizing all government resources to increase defense exports!

- A defense export strategy was unveiled at the 10th meeting of the Defense Industry Development Council

On Tuesday, February 14th, the Minister of National Defense, Lee Jong-sup, and the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Lee Chang-yang, jointly presided over the first meeting of the Defense Industry Development Council at the Ministry of National Defense since the current administration took office.

The meeting covered various topics, such as implementing the 2022 defense export strategy meeting, devising a defense export support strategy, formulating a basic plan for civilian-military technology cooperation, providing financial assistance to the defense industry, and planning for the development of defense space companies.

To ensure that the discussions held during the 2022 defense export strategy meeting, which was presided over by President Yoon Suk Yeol in November of last year, lead to tangible progress, the Ministry of National Defense has announced follow-up measures.

The Ministry has also introduced a defense export support strategy to facilitate the execution of the follow-up measures. This strategy is designed to enhance the government's cooperative support system by strengthening interdepartmental collaboration, improving post-sales services, and creating a framework for the expansion of the defense industry. Additionally, it aims to facilitate the sector-wise implementation of the 2023 defense export strategy.

During the meeting, Minister Lee stated that Korea's weapons systems have proven to be highly competitive in the global market, as evidenced by the country's record-breaking defense exports of USD 17.3 billion last year. He also emphasized that the defense industry is a crucial sector that can drive both economic growth and national defense capabilities.
